Watching You: Part 1 – Epilogue – Sleep Well

Don’t judge me yet.

You don’t have enough information.

You think love is waiting for a text. I know she missed the 7:42 again. Thursday. She always stays five minutes too long talking to the girl at reception, because the girl at reception is the only person who asks how she’s doing and actually waits for the answer.

You think love is asking where she is. I know she stopped at the pharmacy. Three migraine tablets left. She’ll wait until tomorrow to buy more, because she always convinces herself they aren’t that bad.

They are.

You think love is protection.

That’s interesting. Protection always sounds noble, right up until someone actually does it.

People like to believe there’s a line. There isn’t. There’s only the moment you decide someone matters, and the moment you decide you’ll do something about it. Everything after that is just consistency.

When you finish this story, you’ll call me obsessive. Maybe dangerous.

You’ll be wrong.

Not because I’m a good man.

Because you’re asking the wrong question.

The question isn’t what’s wrong with him.

The question is why did nobody notice before he did.

Sleep well.
