That’s the version people like better, though.

It gives everyone a villain.

 Him for neglecting her.

 Me for noticing. 

Her for eventually looking back.

The truth is less convenient.

For months, I watched Avery walk past my window without knowing her name.

Then I learned she had a husband.

I kept looking anyway.
