I Was Born With a Resting Bitch Face – Chapter 12 – Apparently, This Is Intimidating

So.

Twelve chapters.

And all I wanted to tell you was that I was born with a resting bitch face.

Apparently, I had a lot to say about it.

I could blame my childhood.

My school.

The literature.

My family.

The tourists.

The men.

The English language.

Honestly, the English language deserves at least some responsibility.

But here’s the thing.

I don’t actually know if any of that made my face the way it is.

Maybe I was born with it.

Maybe I learned it.

Maybe I just have a perfectly normal face and everybody else is expecting too much from it.

I don’t know.

And I’m not planning to spend another twelve chapters investigating.

I smile when I’m happy.

Sometimes when I’m being polite.

Sometimes when I’m getting paid.

And occasionally when I’m thinking about something I probably shouldn’t be thinking about.

I also laugh.

A lot.

I can be kind without smiling.

I can be angry while smiling.

And I can look absolutely furious while having a wonderful day.

Which makes my face a rather unreliable source of information.

Maybe that’s the problem.

People want to look at you and immediately understand what you’re thinking.

Good luck with that.

Half the time, I don’t understand what I’m thinking myself.

And after years of moving countries, learning languages, working, raising a child, and trying to pronounce Coke correctly, I’m not particularly interested in adding facial interpretation to my responsibilities.

If you want to know something about me, ask.

I like questions.

We’ve established that.

I might even give you an answer.

Probably without smiling.

And if you’ve read all twelve chapters hoping to discover some terrible secret behind my resting bitch face, I’m sorry to disappoint you.

There’s no secret.

It’s just my face.

Sometimes there’s a whole story behind it.

Sometimes there’s absolutely nothing.

And sometimes I’m simply wondering what we’re having for dinner.

Apparently, this is intimidating.

Hahaha.
