Until I Said No – Epilogue – My Confession

It’s 11:07 p.m.

I know that because I’ve looked at the clock four times in the last minute instead of finishing another job application.

The applications are open.

They’re still open.

I’ve changed the wording in one sentence three times.

I don’t think anyone has ever been hired because they chose “coordinated” instead of “managed.”

My apartment has one chair.

I use it for laundry.

So I’m sitting on the mattress instead.

It’s not sad.

I don’t think it is, anyway.

It feels… temporary.

Like my whole life is currently being held together with cardboard boxes and Wi-Fi.

I was supposed to be married three weeks ago.

Instead, I’m learning which grocery store has the cheapest eggs.

Life is funny like that.

Or cruel.

I haven’t decided yet.

I found this page on TikTok about an hour ago.

Someone was reading a confession.

Not judging it.

Just…

holding it.

I stayed for another one.

Then another.

Then I opened the website.

I’ve spent my whole life telling the truth carefully.

Making sure nobody got hurt by it.

Turns out that’s still a kind of lying.

So here’s mine.

Three weeks ago…

I stood in front of everyone I love –

and said no.

Not later.

Not privately.

Not in the parking lot.

At the altar.

Nobody understood.

Honestly…

I’m not sure I did either.

I keep replaying it.

Trying to find the exact moment I became the woman who walked away from the life she’d been building since she was fifteen.

Maybe that’s why I’m writing this.

Because I know exactly what I did.

I just don’t know when I started doing it.

I think…

it began with a boy behind the gym.

Fair enough.
